Hey guys n gals, just a quick update on a thread I started awhile back. I've been messing around with making a new rating plate for my truck and came up with this. I just put in the numbers and stuff so you can all see what it will look like. I don't yet have the letter stamps but I do have some at work that I can use they just are the reg stamps and not the reverse ones like OEM. Julie I hope you don't mind but I put a copy of your rating plate as a referance to the one I did, I blocked out all your numbers just to be on the safe side. Heres the pics, hope ya like and let me know what ya'll think...
looks good, is there a place that sells the star stamp.
Yes most of the places that have the reverse stamps have all of the letters, numbers and special characters with the kit. I believe someone on here told me that the letters are 3/16ths of an inch but they have them from 1/8th to 1&1/4 inch starting at about $400-ish...
Ed, I have the right title for my 53 but it the rating plate was missing when I bought it. Is there any way you could make an extra and sell me one?
Well to be honest I can make you one but I dont have the stamps to stamp them. At least not yet and the boss lady said I'm way past my $$$ limit but if you have a way to stamp it I'll make you one...
Does anyone know if these plates are available for Canadian made vehicles, both my panel and pickup came from the Oakville plant in Ontario.
If you have pictures and the measurements and a way to stamp your own letters into them I can make you one like I did for myself. I know they are not exact replicas but it looks close enuff to me. You guys would die laughing if I told you how I made that...
Not to be the voice of doom and gloom or anything, and I do appreciate the time and effort put into the project, but I have to ask; if you're going to all the time and effort to reproduce the tag, why not do it correctly, with the original lettering and font style? To me, it's the little details that make all the difference. JMHO.
These are nice looking wall and desk decorations, I'm sure that's what they are just like the titles sold are "historical documents". I think it would cause problems with the feds if you actually used them as tags in your truck. Here is WI it's against the law to remove or alter vehicle ID in any way. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Oh no doom an gloom here, I just used a pic of Julies vin tag along with what is in the MF catalog to duplicate it. There are some errors in it, like one has all caps and periods and the other has a cap letter then lowercase letters. If I had a pic of an original I could do it, but I would need a pic and measurements. The most expensive part to reproduce these would be the initial $400-ish for the reverse letter stamps but I only wanted to make one for my truck and if I can help someone out by saving them a couple hundred bucks, what the hey why not...

Yea I know some states are real particular on those things. Here in Illinois I'm sure if I got one of those stuck up, snobbish, a-hole type of person then they might throw a fit over it but normally all they do is look to make sure the numbers match your paperwork. I dont have any plans to go nationwide with aftermarket replicas for outrageous fees and hell-ish waits but if someone wants one all I would be doing is making a "nice looking wall and desk decoration". It would be up to them to get it stamped if they wanted to do that...
