I got hold of a bore scope ,would not go in hole but from looking injector hole looks like part of piston is missing, this is the cyl that had the injector tip broken. I guess I am now engine shopping, question is will a truck engine work in my e350 van if I swap wiring and accesarys?
You would probably have to strip it down to the long block. If your going that far I would recommend a rebuild motor from blackwater.com. Really good guys to deal with. They will also help answer a lot of your questions.
The E van has the oil filter on the bottom, not top.
FICM is mounted on the body, NOT the top of the engine.
I would take the time to replace all the wiring harnesses with new.
Otherwise, it is mostly a drop in fit --- save your old motor because you are going to need odds and ends parts that are specific to the E and not the F.
Unless.. you have an open account at your dealer and want to buy the parts all new.
While you are doing this, think if you want to convert to dual alternator.
2 ways of doing it:
a) dual that is both feeding into same system (not recommended --- the factory setup)
b) just use the mounting kit, but 2nd alternator dedicated to run accessories (recommended).
It is a easy job if you have it apart.
Please post pics of your job etc... I am interested as I have a E..... not that I am expecting to need a motor swap.
I can take some pics, I am looking at a guy in indiana listing a motor used for 1700bucks, he says it is bought from junkyard, I am unsure why a junkyard would sell to him unless they have doubts and dont want to warranty it, even for 90 days!!Anyway the price is what I like and I really cant afford to do it the high dollar way. I need a longblock, but I also dont trust any of the injectors in this engine since it had gas run through it at one time. The van is a e350 12pass vinyl floor frnt and rear heat and air power locks cruise and that it, pretty plain jane but all around good shape, I am just unsure of its value.
I suspect you have to lift the body to do an engine replacement...what do you think?
If you have a bare body, not a lot of problems.
$5,000 plus shipping get you a warrantied reman...
It may be far cheaper in the long run.
Quite frankly, I am suspicious why he bought it from a junk yard and now wants to sell it --- I would research the motor serial real carefully.
Much prefer to get a motor out of the junk yard myself (and know where it came from, the VIN of the truck, and I can call up the previous owners).
In any case, while you have the motor out, I would do a complete rebuild, replacing all the critical parts, sensors, seals, o-rings, etc. that need to be done.
plull the head, check the hole. if round hone it with a cyclinder hone, replace piston , rod injector as needed, send head to machine shop to see if its good. slap it back together and run it down the road.
