My truck died yesterday while I was driving. When I went to start it back up I could hear the starter spinning but my reading on my RPM gauge stayed at 0. When I got it home I pulled the starter out bench tested it and it was in working order. Put it back in tried to crank it the belt spun but no run so I did a compression test on one cylinder to see if it was the timing chain but I had compression. I was thinking it could be the Cam or Crank position sensor. So I was seeing if it threw a code.

There is no cam or crankshaft position sensor per se. There is a a piece called a PIP sensor, aka stator, inside the distributor that is known to go bad causing this exact symptom. The PIP can be replaced with a little time and care. Many people choose to install a new distributor. Be aware of the so-called "rebuilt" distributors. Many of them have the same problem with the PIP.
It is also a wise idea to have the Ignition Control Module (ICM) checked as well. Many part houses have a machine to test them. Your ICM should be mounted on the distributor.
Pulled my dizzy and my PIP sensor was in 50 pieces. Went to go exchange it and found out a brand new one instead of another remand was $1 more. The A*$^@(#$ couldn't tell me I could get a new one for a dollar more the first time!!!! New one will be here thursday thanks for the help!
