drain plug floating in pan

My drain plug sheared in my pan and now its just floating in the damn thing is floating in my pan. any recommendations? one person told me to just leave it since the oil pickup screen will keep it from getting sucked into the engine and the piece is heavy enough to stay at the bottom. Any ideas?

It might be relatively heavy by itself, but can easily be sloshed upwards with the oil into your rotating mass. If it were me, I'd drop the pan before I ever cranked that motor again.

A large magnet stuck to the bottom of the pan should keep the plug from moving around once it finds it's way to it. Drop the pan, and get it out as soon as you can.
