Modified Y pipe.......now what ?
Thanks for the input. I really want the Banks system, but can't afford it at the moment. I know this is the best sytem for the V-10. I agree with you 100% on Banks. They are the best, and they know it. My intention with this mod was to gain a couple HP by modding the Y pipe for $100.00. It just didn't turn out like I planned. Now my problem is how to get rid of this noise the easiest, and cheapest way. I already have one FlowMaster 70 series installed, this is supposidly (sp?) the quiest FlowMaster muffler made. So now I'm looking into getting the same exact muffler and running duals. I have also looked into finding a stock Y and going back to stock with everything fwd of the cat. Still looking at all my options, I know it will not stay like it is much longer.
Thanks...............chime in anytime you want. I'm always open to suggestions and other viewpoints.

I'm leaving mine alone!
Altho' I'd like the "throaty" V8 sound, it seems like it's just not available....................and you'd throw me out if I swapped out the "10" for a 5.8 or 390 just so my truck wouldn't sound like a V6!
Thanks for all your suggestions, comments, and 'fessin' up to your mistakes. That's why I like this site so much.
Take care, all
Rick
Don't discount headers. I'm convinced the V-10 likes the restriction right at the engine. That's why the Ford Y pipe is so restrictive. Long tube headers ( Banks or Borla) will really help performance. The V-10 does not like a free flowing exhaust. It shifts the torque way up the RPM curve. Now if someone wanted to drop a 10 in a Crown Vic or a 55 Chevy I would definitely say open the exhaust up. But for low end torque in our trucks you need the restriction. When I ran my exhaust with the dual 2.5 inch pipes straight to the muffler (without the cat) the throttle response and top end power were amazing. The trucks with the headers also sound good. Scroll up in this post and find member "JKBridges" and check out his site. He has a link to a sound clip with his truck, Banks Headers with a Gibson cat back. It sounds really good ! Don't be afraid to modify your exhaust, you can gain a lot of power with exhaust mods. learn from the people with the sucess, and the failures (ME ! ).
BTW checked out your gallery. Pretty truck !

MY TRUCK IS BONE STOCK AND REALLY PULLS HARD IN THE 1800-2700RPM RANGE. ONCE I GET TO 3000 IT REALLY SEEMS TO BE STARVING FOR SOMETHING EVEN THOUGH IT CONTINUES TO REV.
ONE OF MY V-10 BUDDIES HAS A 2002 F350 WITH THE SAME DRIVE-TRAIN SPECS AS MINE. HE HAD A LOCAL EXHAUST SHOP CUT OUT THE FACTORY Y-PIPE AND REPLACE IT WITH A CUSTOM JOBBY THAT RUNS THE SAME DIAMETER ALL THE WAY TO THE CAT WITHOUT CHOKING IT DOWN. HIS REALLY REVS UP IN THE RPMS WHEN COMPARED TO MINE BUT DOESN'T HAVE AS MUCH PULL IN THAT LOWER RANGE LIKE THE FACTORY SET-UP.
THERE'S GOTTA BE A WAY TO GET BOTH OUT OF AN ENGINE WITH THAT MUCH POWER.
now it will smoke it thru 1st and most of the way thru 2nd. i recommend my mods for low end power.I have my shift points set @ 5400 rpms @ wot, and can tell you it hauls butt like that.

[/B][/QUOTE] It may not be necessary with some exhaust set ups,but a chip will give you more low end power as well as everywhere else in the rpm band.
I know I know, you have to run premium fuel.
You have to give something to get something. With horsepower it's usually $$$$$.
HELLO V10KLZZ71S
THAT IS THE ONLY MOD THAT BUDDY HAS MADE TO HIS TRUCK. COULD THE CHIP HAVE HELPED YOU OUT?? ALSO, THIS MAY BE STUPID BUT WHAT IS "WOT"
GLAD TO HEAR FROM YOU 4X4X4X4! NOT TOO MANY GEAR SHIFTERS AROUND HERE. I CAN LET MY TRUCK IDLE ALONG IN 1ST GEAR AND THEN PUNCH IT AND IT WON'T CHIRP THE TIRES. IT WILL PEEL YOUR FACE BACK AND SMASH YOU INTO THE SEAT THOUGH. I GUESS THAT'S NOT A BAD THING BUT I WOULD THINK ALL THAT POWER COULD MAKE THEM TALK.
MAYBE I'M EXPECTING TOO MUCH OUT OF A TRUCK WITH ONLY 1700 MILES
