my muffler shop is recomending the y pipe fix with 2.5 inch to cat then 4 inch the rest of the way out with their muffler. what do you guys think? will i lose torque with this set up?
You talking dual 2 1/2 inch into the cat or single? Stock is 3" so I wouldn't go any smaller than that. 4" sounds too big to me. Banks only uses 3 1/2" on their kits. The bigger the tail pipe the less speed the exhaust gasses have and flow suffers. With the exception of Banks, most all the other cat-back companies recomend a single 3" exhaust for towing and tq.
I don't think the larger exhaust will make that much difference. It may change the tone somewhat. The V10 is the problem. You can buy a Banks Stinger Kit for about $540. That includes a new air filter and housing, 3 1/2" muffler and tail pipe with 4" chrome tip. $1500 if you want headers and the Stinger kit.
