Ive had the 210 on for about 2 weeks now. I made a 450km round trip (mostly highway) last friday. About 75% the trip I was in 4x4, temp was -20c and cruised at 110km/70mph at 2000rpm.
The truck tells me 11lt/100km, or 19.5mpg. Did not hand calc.
Today I made the same trip only this time I was only in 4x4 for about 20kms total. same temp, speed. I also idled at the airport for 15mins before heading back home. The LOM hit 20.0mpg (still 11lt/100km). Only thing different is I put in the stainless winter grill inserts. Also not hand calc'd.
When I traveled home from Van after buying the truck (1250km) The highest I got was about 14-15mpg and dropped 1 or 2 during regen.
Close friend ran the 210 for a 1000 mile trip at 65-70 MPH and returned a consistent 18.75MPG, Although up from 16 stock. LOM read 22MPG at the highest for this trip.
Ya im aware of the LOMs over compensating, but I know how much the truck would burn in fuel on this trip and its significantly less than before the delete/tune.
Truck is saying its about 5mpg better which like you all i highly doubt but id put my money on a good 2-3mpg better.

This sounds encouraging since I intend to eventually tune my truck, but...I'm curious, what kind of weather or road conditions could require 4x4 and yet still allow you to safely motor along at 70 mph???

A very noticable and welcomed difference!
Longview1, Hi. what rear axle do you have in that truck? Also, if you changed the oil after you tuned it please check the oil and tell us what color it is. I'm really starting to get interested in the tuner. I assume you have a Spartan.
Stanley,
I have 3.73, which is perfect I find. Yes I have the spartan. And yes, I did change the oil the next day after the dpf/doc delete.
I used Rotella T6 syn, 5w-40. I checked oil yesterday and it was still fairly clear, a little grayish maybe....a far cry from pitch black. I only have 54,000kms on it but I feel its worth it if the warranty is denied, the truck is much happier without that crap on it.
Thanks, I'm thinking hard about the tuner and about changing to a 3.73 axle. i pulled my 5er for over a year with my previous truck and it had a 3.73. i got such a good buy on the 08 that I went ahead and bought it thinking I could change the differential out, and I still think I will.
No prob. Id think real hard on the tuner, and from reading the owners manual it would only void warranty if the issue was caused by the tuner itself...
It looks like your truck is a 2wd? Not sure what a shop charges for a gear swap nowadays but that also would be of help in the mileage department!
Stanley I would think real hard about the tuner as well. Is your warranty worth risking? I agree the tuner has its pros but along with that are cons. If you maintain good service the DPF is nothing to fear. The tuner I think screws with the LOM on the dash and definitely gives you a false reading, I think that is something Spartan does to the tune to make you think you are getting better MPG.

Thanks guys for the input. I'm pretty comfortable saying that if you present the truck to ford with a delete and tuner they are going to void the warranty and let you hire the lawyer to prove it didn't cause the problem. unless you get the dealer to cover you. Plus, i was raised by Roy Rogers so I would just eat whatever I broke anyway. As to the LOM (lie o meter) I would never count on that for fuel mileage. But MPG is not my primary concern. At the last oil analysis (after only 3400 miles) I had 6% fuel in the oil. That really sucks and that IS directly attributable to the DPF and regenerations. That's why I'm considering a tuner.
If/when you do do the DOC/DPF delete, you'll wish you did it sooner. It'll be like a new truck all over again. You don't need the high HP tunes to see benefits. I know you tow a lot, so you probably won't want the big tunes anyway. The 210 HP tune is great for pretty much anything and is a good "all around" tune. BTW - Spartan has DPF on tunes too. Last thought for you...... most of the problems folks have with these trucks has to do w/ the emissions stuff, so you get rid of it and you'll have less problems/worries. I know it's a big decision to make. I balked at it for a long time. About a year and a half ago, my truck began a regen and then went into "limp mode". I said to myself " never again" and did the delete. Truck has been running like a top since.

What???? If you spend anytime researching Spartan or visiting the Spartan forums you will find tons of info on mileage. No one related to Spartan has ever or would ever try to tell a customer the LOM is accurate and to say Spartan does it on purpose is outrageous. Everyone knows the only accurate milage is hand calculated tuned or not. Tuners and deletes are not for everyone and I think most people on this board do understand the risk/reward of it. To each his own. But really you think Spartan is trying to fool its customers??? Head over to the Spartan forums and let me know what you read, or call Spartan and ask them if the LOM is accurate after tuning.
STM
By the way the best milage Ive ever gotten is 18.5 hand calc on the 250 tune doing 72-75 all flat highway.
Merry Xmas!
