Good post 54_5star. I have a collection of about six articles from Mustang magazines on hot rod inline six mustangs. I believe they hot rodded both 200s and 250s.
240/300 six Ford's "in house" design? I have heard unsubstantied rumors that Ford had went outside and had another engine manufacturer design it for them. Has anyone else ever heard this?
There was rumor floating about here a couple years ago that White Motors had designed it, but I believe that was finally debunked.
The 240/300 I-6 was a design originally licensed from International Harvester in the late 50's. Ford produced a version of this motor for IH and White for use in some of their medium duty trucks.(and some combines) In 1964, the 240/300 became available in FORD vehicles. There was no advertising this first year. If your vehicle was not built to order, you did not have the option to get the 240/300. Also, at this same time, Toyota was using GM 292 I-6's in the land cruiser. These were in short supply in 1965, Toyota was not yet building their version of the 292 yet, so the 240 was made available thru I-H. 2200 vehicle were built with this engine in 1965, all exported from Japan to the middle east.
I presently own a 1965 f-100 with a 4sp, 4.56 rears and over 500,000 miles on an un rebuilt motor. I bought it new, and have been towing the same 1966 Airstream since then. The worst trouble I've ever had was a leaky manifold gasket. It took less than an hour to replace it in the Auto zone parking lot last year.
I was 20 when I bought her, and I ain't 20 now. It's the only new truck I ever bought and will be the last one too. I take care of her and she takes care of me......
damn...if i ever have to rebuild mine, it's getting a heavy coat of fomoco blue. not gray BLUE BLUE BLUE.
any idea where i can get a tachometer that only goes to 4k and has an chronometer on it? now that would make uglytruck look all kinds of industrial. (as if the vinyl seat, rubber floor covering, and generous splashes of excess paint decorating the body weren't enough)
The 0-4000 tach came from J.C. Whitney (about $65). I like it but admit the lighting is poor.* You also can check with Fuel Systems in Wisconsin (262-781-4353, number was good last I checked). They have a lot of low rpm tachs. Pick your range 3000, 4000, 5000. They have Datcon (the one at J.C.), Stewart Warner, and AST (never heard of this one).
* Even the expensive ($62) 0-6000 tach I bought from JEGS has poor lighting. Best lit tach I have is a cheapo ($24) 0-8000 I got from J.C.
