Noise Dampening
I'm finding listening to this old rattly 6.9 is getting a bit old. I just put new carpet in hoping to dampen the cab noise a bit alas no avail there. Does anybody have any good ideas how to make driving this old work horse a little more peaceful?

yep, its me. dynamat on the floor, top of cab. next is the doors inside the skin and behind the door panels. how about doin a signature so people know what your dealin with? if its a 4 or 5spd, the your getting a ton of noise from the rubber boot around the shifters. also, whats the condition of the factory sound absorber on the firewall? its not the best but it helps. do you still have the felt on the hood? that will kill a lot of noise too. lmc truck parts has that stuff too. ebay has generic dynamat that doesnt work as well but it helps. lizard skin spray does well too

most of the stuff cost a lot of $.
i went with this stuff and im quite impressed really.
the more iv added the quieter it got,by a lot.
if your not into spending big bucks,but want something.give it a try.
imho,its worth every penny.im sure a dynomat truck must be quieter inside.but this is so cheap compared:
EZ Cool Automotive Insulation heat barrier and noise reduction for cars, trucks, classic cars, street rods and much more
he sells it on ebay.
my truck must be more than twice as quite in the cab before i added it id estimate.
the only place i doubled up was over the trans hump.
iv got two of those 4' x 10'.-enough to do under carpet in floor,under carpet that goes up to rear window,the two doors,i tucked a some behind the dash when i had my cluster out,and i think i tucked some behind the plastic behind the doors/rear speakers when i had those out to replace.
need another roll to start putting under the hood,firewall etc.the more, the quieter it's getting.

I did just about the same thing as oreo with mine, used some carpet padding in between the foil side of the barrier and my carpet made a big difference where there wasnt any with the factory carpet.

Thank you all this has been most helpful. Right now the old girl is just a tin can with some carpet on the floor IE no head liner no felt under the hood (im not even real sure it has any insulation on the firewall) And being as its a t19 tranny with 4.10 gears 55mph is definatly in the power band (loud). I just didnt know if there was some sound deadening matterial out there now I do. Thanks guys!
