i posted this on fordsix too just pigured id run it by you guys.
ive seen this done on an econoline van once. guy built a custom intake manifold and scrapped the pos plenum. i cant find that thread anywhere now tho
if i remember right the plenum is there to control the intake psi right so scrapping it **should** cause a huge increase in air intake if setup properly...
so heres my plan...
DUAL snorkels into one oversize throttle body and then into the custom manifold.
and when i do this il lbe rebuilding the ole 300 so ill toss in oversize valves and hopefully P&P the head.
what do you guys think? again im doing a rebuild/mild build on the engine at the same time and the exhaust is already done.
Don't expect a "huge" anything from those modifications. The stock computer won't tolerate a lot of modifications and JMO, the stock system provides more than sufficient air flow capacity unlike the stock carb intake system. Larger valves in the EFI head are most likely going to eleminate the fast-burn characteristic of the EFI head and thus reduce efficiency.
the stock efis dont really breathe well IMO hense why big valves wont do much in a stock engine. if everything is stock its fine but once you upgrade one thing the rest cant keep up. my exhaust is done but it made no difference, gave er more torque but its still not getting any more air. i could do all the intake i want without valves its still not getting more air. to make the best of one mod you gotta do em all.
so if i increase the volume of air available (dual snorkels and larger TB) then increase the volume of air into the chambers and exhaust out of the chambers (big valves) and the exhaust out of the truck (better exhaust) the thing will be breathing much better. which means less work its doing and better efficience together making more power.
i may have to swap to MAF to accept the larger air flow though. this wasnt meant to be a performance upgrade as much as it is just to clean up the engine bay. i hate that plenum for all its worth if i have it my way this truck will look as close to a carbd 300 as possible. dont even suggest it if i could go carb i would have by now its out of the question.
