mustang 5.0 intake swap

hey i was thinking about doing the mustang 5.0 intake swap onto my 91 5.0 truck...i was just wondering, do i need intake manifold AND plenum, or just plenum, or just manifold? i forgot how this works

also the 5.0L in the crown vic would be the same as the mustang right?

anyone done this with any numbers to back it? i heard from many people it makes a huge difference, just wondering how much increase on paper?

thanks guys

The crown vic intake is actually a bit smaller volume wise than the HO, but both are a LOT smaller than the truck intake. You need both parts for the swap the car and truck intakes are totally different.

I'm not sure if you would gain anything out of that swap. I'm a fox-body guy and those runners are pretty small.

Most of the Mustang guys pitch those intakes and go with the Holley Systemmax or the Trick Flow intake for the bigger runner size.

Yes bigger runners make more HP with better flowing heads, but with the stock heads and particularly the stock truck cam the HO intake is the best match. Also consider that in a relatively light car sacrificing some TQ below 3000rpm doesn't hurt too much, but with a truck that is on average 1500lbs heavier than a car it needs all the TQ it can get.

If I still had the upper & lower off my 92, I would have gave it to you. I think it found it's way to the trash, haven't seen it around the garage in a while.

I have been on the hunt for a HO intake to try on my 5.0, but so far people want real money for them and I don't have a lot of that right now.

the upper/lower runner shape, size and location are all different so you need all the chunks.

I asked in another thread and didnt get an answer (perhaps I was not clear): can the gt40 intake be used and turned around 180* so that the TB is on the drivers side? are the gt40 ports symmetrical (I dont own one and have none to see or measure)

Yes the GT40 uppers are reversable as are the HO intakes that don't have a built-in angled neck behind the TB.

I went to a police seizure auction last weekend and they sold 2 89 5.0L stangs for under 500 bucks each. They both ran well and never smoked at all. I was gonna buy one but my wife lost her mind when i told her i wanted to bid on one. most of the time them and the parts up here are very expencive like Conanski say, but you do run into a deal every now and then. Pick a parts are even picked clean, or want a small fortune for the peice if you can find it.

well the junkyard here has crown vics scattered everywhere, i dont think he has any stangs though, so the crown vic intake would be a good improvement but not as much as the mustangs?

and just for clarification, i need the manifold AND the plenum right

thanks again guys...any other tips/ideas on the cheaper side to throw in while im in there?, this is either gonna happen on my 91 or my dads 92, which will be mine if i do this hehe

The CV intake will do the trick it is only marginallly smaller than the HO, and yes you need both upper and lower parts plus the throttlebody, just don't try to use the injectors or fuel rail.
