in my opinion the early one is the best turbo they put on no turbo surge, the screens i think are to shut the turbo up so u don't hear it as much a bigger intake for the turbo can be had with a ats compressor housing this will also solve the turbo surging problem the only 2000 i've looked at has the ats upgrade on it so i don't know if the stock one is bigger or not
y would you want to do that unless ur doing something to prevent turbo surge even then i don't see a point in it unless i'm missing something here
Early 99 had a 2 1/2 in inlet, late 99 and up had a 3in inlet. Has nothing to do with surge, just a bigger inlet and also perpares the early 99 for a better choice of upgrades for turbo's when doing the late 99 switch.
Erik
yes the early 99 does not surge..it also doesn't flow as much air..I will be using the stock turbo from the 01 right now with a wicked wheel..I am in hopes to have a TN by the end of summer..that and injectors I'm hoping to be around 400 HP
i don't much about these turbos other than what i have experienced but i can tell you with my 90hp hypermax and the six gun turned up to level 6 roughly 152hp over stock the stock turbo will clean the smoke out of the stacks very well but with the smoker setting on the hypermax it still cleans up after the black cloud is left behind
i'm am looking to do something for a turbo upgrade or something i'm still looking into it

Well then i think you need to check out Dp tuner for a proper "smoke tune" chip..LOL
Iam not going to turn this thread into another dp chip thread, but if you have time you should do a search on here or go onto the DP tuner website. They do great tunes for our trucks and i love my 140hp setting (soot like no other!)
Erik
yeah but with both maxed out my truck will torque twist in every gear and smoke like crazy pluse i'm done changing chips and such i'm happy with what i have
btw it doesn't clean up all the way just isn't as dark on the smoker setting
i'm also someone who likes to deal with local companies that way its close if i have a problem with it and the hypermax guys have been really good to me and every one else i know thats gone there
Yes to the point, use RTV silicone sealant, bought at the dealer, it's a 1/2 tube caulk gun cartridge, and its gray, specifically designed for 7.3 Powerstrokes, so it says on the outside. Same stuff that you use on the oil pan, and IDM.
