Someday but who I can't say exactly when. I took two days vacation last week and spent 12 hours each day in the shop and feel like I got nowhere. I have too many projects for customers and am trying to play with my stuff here and there. Once I get my dent on the road, it definitely won't be an offroader, at least where branches and such hazards are concerned.
Well I put a brand new battery 1 week ago with plenty of CCA and it always turned over and started like a champ. On my test drive it started to have idling issues (chitty old carb and I am not a carb tuning guru) and stalled, but always started right back up.
Then it starts is bogging rough running thing, but was cool on the temp gauge, I got it outa the woods and back home in the driveway and it died, and would not a lick.
After a short set (for me and it) it would at least buzz the started cyl and the batt showed 12.7 on the multimeter. I got it jump started with the DODGE and got it back under the carport.
I them noticed the coolant leak outa the heater hose, and am going to swap out the alternator with a spare and go from there. Up until now it at least always started......
If the multimeter shows 12.7, the batt should be fine. That should be plenty to spin it over. Got good grounds between battery, frame, engine, and body? Hows the starter mounting?
Not really, does sound like it's a heat soak problem though. That would point me towards the starter. Of course, hard to diag something that's 300 miles away.
As for the running bad, I'm not very good with carbs. Didn't you replace the Q-jet with something else? What's the ignition system made out of?
Stock components except for the Accel coil, it got points in the dist. Swapped the old
q-jet for a not so old Edelbrock.
I think I got the heat soak issue fixed, I insulated every fuel line and the pump. Wrapped the headers and relocated the rad fan lower and more centered on it.
