I just agreed to buy a 77 250. I am happy about this truck. I want put the cab from my f150 on it since my 74 cab is in better shape.
The engine is a 390 that has 5000 miles since the rebuild. The possible issue is the truck has been sitting outside for 6 months minus a hood. A little gas in the carb and the truck crank over easily.
What should I look out for? I plan on changing the oil, filters, and hoses immediately.
water could have messed up ignition parts od distributer. But it seems like you have the right idea...change all the filters, check all the ignition parts, change all the fluids, check the braking system, maybe a tune up and you should be good to go
X2 on screwing up the ignition. Spray some PB blaster on the points in the dizzy. Just douse it, it should help it.
And changing everything that is reguarly replace is definitley a good idea. Do a really good check of everything, choke, brakes, vacuum, hoses, fluids, lubrication and filters.
Also does anyone have an idea about which engine might have originally came in a 77 250, 2wd, with dual tanks, and a manaual tranny? The guy I'm buying it from thinks the tank selector was going out when he parked it. I typed in the info in Napa Auto parts and realized that the fe engine it has now was a replacement. So with my info at hand I don't know which would be the correct part.
