Thanks for the info and pep talk. I am sure that some of us are more critical than is warrented from time to time. Engineers tend to talk about what is wrong in far greater proportion thatn do we talk about what is right and working well.
Bob, the <a href="http://www.nhtsa.gov">National Highway Traffic Safety Administration"</a> has a searchable database of consumer complaints. You can post your own and request an investigation. Very interesting research tool.
Glad to see some discussion on the transmission issues of the 99'. I made a post titled "trans slop' on Aug 15 and didn't get a single reply. I was begining to think I was the only one with transmission issues. In short, I had my transmission replaced at 40k, and now at 60k I think its starting to go out again. Pro is that when I start out from a dead stop the engine revs just a little before the drive chain engages with a bit of a slap. This is the same problem they supposedly fixed last year by replaceing the transmission.
Here's a link to an article I read comparing 2003 Ford, Chevy, and Dodge. The authors certainly have a ford bias, but its still somewhat informative.
Chevy's Duramax has an Allison transmission bolted to it. Need I say more. If Ford doesn't get it's act together on their transmission problems I know of at least one customer their gonna loose to the Duramax.
I have been told by serveral technicians NOT to get the rotors resurfaced if they are warped and to buy new ones. They say while the resurfacing them fixes the problem it also take metal off the rotor leaving less metal to displace heat making them more prone to failure.
I was also told by several people NOT to buy the lifetime warranty brakes at midas as they cause accellerated rotor warp beacuse the material they are made out of does not displace heat and is hard on the rotors. What good are lifetime warranty brakes if you have to replace the rotors?
