My dad is looking at a 2011 F-150, and is between the Fx4 and Lariat, he really wants cooled seats, so he is leaning towards the Lariat. But the new woodgrain that the lariat has is ugly imho, is it possible to buy and switch out the inserts with the Fx4 ones?
he might actually be able to for 2011. It used to be no as far as the center dash piece because the Lariat and upper models had 3 extra buttons at the top for the computer/message center, and the FX4 did not have this. Now I guess the computer/message controls is tied into the steering wheel buttons.
Provided both have the same radio/hvac setup, they appear to be the same, here's comparison pics:
Ok thanks, other than the button issue, there isn't anything else that prevents from swapping them? The door panel inserts are also able to be switched out?
sorry, don't know about the rest of the swap, never done that before. maybe someone here has or from the 04-08 forum. I just knew that you couldn't as far as the center dash for 04-10 because of the extra buttons issue.
At least in the photo above, the color contrast between the wood grain and the tan inserts aren't too aweful. But holy crap, what the heck were they thinking, is what I noticed when I looked at a blue Lariat with black interior. But I could overlook that interior appearance issue for the comfort the Lariats optional heated/cooled seats offer... Or at least that's what I'm considering as a possible replacement for my 07 Lariat
Yeah my dad is looking at a blue lariat with black interior and it looks awful. But the Fx4 doesn't have cooled seats and few other goodies..that he wants. So we may end up switching out door panels or looking at a different trim level. BTW why doesn't the platinum come in blue?
^not sure, DearbornDerek said they had a few 09 Platinum test models in Blue Flame but it never made it to production. I also see the 11 Platinum has a new interior color called Steel Gray.
