4000 miles ago there was a special on Chevron 15-40 that I couldn't pass up, something like $8 a gallon? Anyway had issues with romps, throwing "no boost detected" codes etc. when cold. Since temps are now in the teens and twenties, and having read other posts about Synthetics, I decided to go with the Motorcraft Semi-Synthetic 10-30. (also a special $80 lube, oil & filter). What a difference. Rotella also has a semi-Synthetic, so I think I'm going that route from here on out...
I haven't seen a 10W30 rated for deisels, All my local walmart and autozone carries is 5w40 syn, and 15w40 Dino. I use the MC semi syn in all my gas power vehicles, best value in motor oil, IMO....

Interesting story.
I used this in my truck for several years. I always ordered it through a dealership. I ordered several cases per order.
At one pick-up i just loaded it as they carted it out, paid the bill and went home. A week later i looked and realized it was not diesel oil.
I went back to swap it. After a long discussion the shop techs admitted to accidentally bringing me the wrong oil and they intentionally used the diesel 10-30 on car oil changes to conveniently get rid of it.
They had to reorder for me.
Do you think they notified any of the car owners?

I'm not convinced that 10w-30 is a very good choice, even in cold climates. Once the engine is fully warmed up, it's roughly the same temps regardless as lonh as the stat is working properly. It needs to act like a 40 weight oil when warmed up IMHO, hence the use of 5W-40. I know Blackstone really doesnt like to see oil samples shearing down to 30 weight and will tell you to change the oil more often if it does. Keep in mind that the Xw-30 oils will shear down to 20 weight or lower with use. I wouldn't want an oil that light in my truck...
Sounds like deliberate indifference to me. Wonder if anyone's engine was damaged as a result...
It won't cause any damage to the engine however prolonged use of HD Diesel oils in gas car engines will damage O2 sensors and catalytic converters. If used for just one oil change I don't think it would do anything but shorten the service life of those emissions systems.
