I just recently purchased a 2000 crew cab long bed 4x4 and it has manual warn hubs <the regulars i believe> and we finally got bad weather in va, so i turn the hubs on and starting driving around, when i need 4x4 i just turn the **** and it worked fine, my question is that i am driving to new york tommorrow and may need to use 4 wheel drive to get out of my driveway , so i was going to turn the hubs when i got to the highway. is that what all of the fte members do? thanks in advance family members..
if you dont use four wheel drive much good to lock em and drive a few times a year to keep every thing free and lubed . it depends how far you are from new york but does not really hurt anything to drive with them locked . if looks like snow keep em locked so you can hit the shifter for 4x4 quick . wes

YES!!! If you don't 4x4 much, lock your hubs at least once a month or you'll end up like me... 4x4 wasn't used much on my truck so when we got slammed with snow last year, the shafts tore up the inner main seals when I turned the 4x4 on. I hope I don't have to do that job for a VERY long while...

Definitely... while I don't see it hurting anything, you're gonna get a fair amount of vibrations through the floor once you hit the interstate. It's not too much trouble to stop in at the gas station, jump out, and give the hubs a quick 1/4-turn... your call, though.
I'm looking at replacing the OEM hubs and have checked the internet for pricing.
I have seen the pricing for approx. $195, but my question is...."is that per side or for both sides?".

Thanks,
Are you talking about the lockers, or the whole entire hub assemblies? If you're talking about lockers, are you going with OEM or aftermarket lockers?
With manual hubs locked, your front axles will be locked to the wheels. So, they will be turning- friction, less fuel economy, wear on the hubs and axles. The differential won't be engaged until you press the 4x4 in the cab, then you've got the full system working. Pros and cons, just things to consider...
Thanks Jeremy,
With the mileage I have on the truck I always get out and manually lock the hubs just to make sure they actually get locked up after throwing the interior switch.
The vacuum system is not in the best of shape and I can hear the switch engage and I know I'm good to go if I manually lock the hubs.
Currently, I have the driver's side hub that is very hard to turn, even after removing it and doing a very thorough cleaning.
So, I'm just gonna fix it ONE more time and be done with it.
My OEM hubs are pretty much toast, too. The vacuum system is working for now, so I leave well enough alone. I MUST fix/replace the hubs before winter really sets in. I am torn between the Warn solution and OEM. I like the auto/shift on the fly idea, but in my use there are few times when I can envision needing true ESOF. I could probably replace with Warns and lock when needed.
Totally , but since you're the OP (wait, no you're not after a read again and edit, dang, sorry to the OP as this now) does it count as a --
You sig has the MBRP turbo back, how do you like? Sound inside? Drone? Lower EGTs? I'm looking for a "quiet" exhaust cuz mine is stupid loud inside the truck.
