Found something that works pretty good - a little background 1st.
I changed my front wheel bearings in June of this year - had the hubs off at the time. Mine have always been hard to turn & I've read several suggestions on how to free them up but didn't remember the details while I had them off.
So before I put them back on I sprayed around the perimeter of the hub (front- -part that turns to eng 4x4) with Dupont Teflon Silicone Lubricant. Worked them back and forth a few times. Sprayed some more and repeated the lock/unlock turns. Put 'em back on the truck and there they stayed unlocked till thur of this week - we got about 6in of snow & ice. Figured I was in for another round of "darn these things are hard to turn!"
Nope - req little effort to lock either. Unlock was easy as well
Thought I'd share as I was ready (after struggling to engage 1 hub during a 20inch snowstorm last year) to ditch the OEM hubs for warns which aren't cheap. Saved me some dough - thought I'd pass it along
Saw that write up and a couple of others but was hesitant to tear into a hub that far - figured I'd save that till one of mine siezed. I normally use 4x4 quite a bit year round but this year the summer here was so dry I just didn't need it till this week. My hubs have always been hard to turn - even when the truck was new despite frequent usage.
