I was driving my truck and my abs light started flashing. I didn't think anything of it because the brakes still worked. I later found out that my brake lights are staying on. I checked fuses and 2 were blown, but one of the big ones under the hood was blown. It was a green 30 amp. It was the one for trailer lights. One of the fuses that was out was for the turn signals. Now my brake lights don't turn off. They stay on all the time. I am thinking my brake switch is out. It looks like a bear to change though. Do I need to take the brake booster off? I am sure someone has experienced this.
I have not had any experiance with your problem. But i have read if ur brake lights stay on ur torque converter will act up. I cant remember if it will dmage it or not but i would read up.
I would check the electrical socket at the rear (for plugging in trailer lights/brakes)
Sounds like wires may be touching each other on the inside. It is a trouble spot anyway but in winter with ice buildup on old wires it can be a real headache.
Not sure but the thing you are looking at may be the neutral safety switch. Look under the dash at the brake pedal, the brake light switch should be on a bracket between you and the pedal. Pull the two wire plug and see if the brake lights go out, if they do then it`s a good bet the switch is bad.

AFAIK if your brake lights are on, your tq converter wont lock up
Well I dont have a torque converter.....LOL Mine is a 5 spd. I took out my trailer wiring, it was all quick connect, so it was easy. I have replaced the fuses and they are not blowing anymore. I am thinking my brake light switch. I dont understand why the ABS light is on. I will disconnect the switch and see if the lights go out. I hope they do. Anyway, thanks for the help and suggestions. Keep them coming and I will keep updating!
Your RABS light is probably on because the computer is not getting the correct signal from the brake lights. Fix the brake light problem and the RABS should be back to normal.
Ok, so I unplugged my brake light switch. My brake lights did not go off. I plugged in a new switch to see if that would turn them off. It did not. So um now what? I am stumped, which is a pretty easy task to do. LOL But any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. I am sure there are folks out there that know their way around the wiring on these trucks!
unplug the directional switch wires under the column ad see if the lights go out. the multi function switch may have melted down.
also try fiddling with the direction signals see if the rear blinkers work, or if the lights go out. this will also confirm if the MFS is bad.
Well thank you TJC. I unplugged it and that was it! Lights are now off! Now I just have to find one of those switches. Thank you for all of your help and suggestions!
