CPS Problem

Ok guys. Im replacing my CPS and I have a problem. Im hoping its not a really bad problem but I dont have a good feeling about it.

Pulled my old CPS out and when it finally came out the end of it is broken off!!!!!!!! It looks like it got hit by something almost. And the inside of it has oil on it that looks like it has been there for a while. The end piece that broke off is still in the hole!

Is this common? Ive never heard of it.

So WTF do I do?

I remember one thread this happened to someone. The main body of the cps broke right? IIRC they drilled and got a screw in it and were able to get it out. Proceed with caution and hopefully others will have some ideas. I'll search and see if I can find that thread.

Yes the main body broke. About a half an inch of the end broke and is still in the hole. I can feel it with my finger.

Whats the worst that can happen if I try to get it out with a pair of needle nose plyers?

Can it fall into the motor? If it can where will it go? Into the pan?

I don't know where it would go but you don't want it falling in. I don't think this is the thread I remember but may help: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...omes-true.html

I would get some more feedback before proceeding.

Someone else on here posted this picture before and I thought it was pretty cool. (if you know who it was please let me know so I can credit them for it)

Hopefully it will provide a better idea of how to get it out.

Kinda OT, but related to pulling a CPS- why pull Fuse #9 under the hood? It goes to the quarter panel aux power supply so, how is that related?

More related, how about using a magnet with really sticky glue on the end to touch the stuck part and pull it out? Just enough pressure to get adhesion and then carefully extract the part? Or, apply a vacuum to the opening to get it started in the right direction. I know it is tight between the front end and the fan, but you have to try something, right?
