223 or 262?

223 or 262?
I used the vin decoder on this website, and have found other info that tells me that the truck that I recently purchased has a 262. Every parts house that I go to only have parts available for a 223, and further more, they tell me that in 1964 Ford didn't make a 262 in the F-100 only a 223. Can someone help me out?

if you post the vin someone here can decipher it for you., fourth digit in the vin is the engine code.... 262 will be a "B" , 223 is a "J"

I'll toss this out there, but will probably have my hand slapped...
J code 1957-1964 223 I6
B code 1963-1964 262 I6
A code 1966-1972 240 I6
B code 1965-1972 300 I6
I have no experience with the I6 so I cannot comment on the subtle difference and how to identify them.

Ya the vin is F10BK. The Paint code is M, Trans code is F, and Axle code is 12. Thanks for your help and I'm glad to be a part of FTE.

K = built in Kansas City
M = Wimbeldon white.... or maybe Corinthian white, i can not remember what year they changed to wimbeldon? anyone else know?
Trans "F" = T98 4 speed
Axle code 12 = 3.89 gear ratio, ford 9 inch

Hello, it is me, after some years..I'm back.
Nice to see that teh forum still going.
well the reason I'm back is cause I got me another 1965 F100, and this one is a Short Bed, with a 6 in line engine, and 3 on the Tree, I'm going to post the VIN # here hopefully some one can help me with what I have in this truck please.

Thanks very much in advance, hopefully I start doing the Disck break convertion that I dide to my other F100 since I know what I'm doing, thanks to this forum that was real helfull.
