Got in my truck (77 F100) to go and get some firewood last week and did'nt have any brake pressure.....well a bare minimum and I had to lean on it! After a damn near heart attack, and 15 minutes of nursing this thing down the road, they finally came around. It's darn near a daily driver and I've never had a problem before it turned into Siberia around here. I have no leaks what so ever and it's full of fluid. Was it common to have problems with the booster? I've heard there is a check valve for vaccum on it that can stick occasionally. Any suggestions?
Yea, id probly bleed the brakes like mentioned earlier and also look for vacuum leaks. Im not familar with a check valve for the booster but il look into it.
I had a 76 F100 I drove for 24 years with no power brakes or steering as well, but I never had to get on a brake pedal like I did this thing! It was like pushing a brick wall with your foot. Going fast ain't no problem, but I like to slow down when I need to? It's a bad feeling when you can't......trust me. Already beat cancer once, I don't need to see a cardiologist this soon. Thanks for the help
I had the same problem in my 77' when it was cold the booster wouldnt work...run the truck for a while and the heat off of the engine would warm things up and it would work... I scrounged up some parts from a lincoln and put hydroboost brakes on and the difference is UNBELIEVABLE! I love my hydroboost brakes... for example... now keep in mind they werent working like they should b4 the conversion but after i put the HB on I had a 3,000lb trailer w a 9,000lb skid steer on it and i stopped (not using trailer brakes) better with all that weight then i did with just the truck b4. Totally night and day difference... But besides me getting excited about the hydroboost, I believe your problem lays in your booster and its probably just as easy to replace it...
Not yet. I've resorted to driving my 4runner until tomorrow, and can get to a relatives shop (he's got a lift) and see. I'm almost convinced it may be water in the lines. I actually got in it this morning and drove it, and it worked just fine. I'm still not going to take any chances and assume anything until I see for myself. I'll let you know. Thanks
It's been a tad warmer in NC the last day or so than when the problem showed up hasnt it? I know it has in North Ga. Still cold, but a little warmer. You may be right, couldve been frozen water in the lines if its better now
