Hey all i am new to site, and have started tearing down my 76 ford truck. I have some plans to make a cruiser of sorts. The problem is that the stepside bed is pretty rotted out, so I am looking for put a custom flatbed on it. Anyone got any ideas of what I am looking at price wise?
What is rotted out on the bed? The wood? The fenders? The sides? All of the above? Parts are available to repair it. If you just want to make a flat bed, then I would think just the cost of lumber.
The sides are rotted pretty bad, and the front plate closet to the cab is also rotten. Also the wood be is rotted out as well. In therory though if i wanted to replace the sides with wood and reattach the fenders to that??? Has anyone done that by chance?
I don't think that wood sides would hold up too well with the fenders bolted to them with daily use and abuse. However, if it's just a cruiser you could prolly get away with it.
You can get replacement parts for everything except the bedsides that the "steps" bolt to.
Actually, the bed itself is made up of a series of panels that were spot welded at the factory. There are replacement panels available for the lower portion of these beds. I understand the money factor. These beds are rare enough, I just hate to see them disintegrate.
