I have 76 w/a 78 Front clip, Im contemplating switching out the 78 Grill for a 76 before the hood gets painted w/the holes for the FORD in it. That way it'll look like a 76.
If I do this (my wife thinks I'm crazy as the 78 grill is dentless), I need to get the right insert - did the 76 have the egg crate from end to end or did it have a black surround around the headlights like the 77?
The '76-77 had a black headlight surround, but it was part of the grille insert. On '78-79s the headlight surround is not a part of the grille insert.
Unless you're putting together a high-end show rig, I personally wouldn't worry too much about the grille. Most people won't know the difference anyway. It really just comes down to what YOU prefer to do to YOUR pick-up.
I know. It will be pretty nice when it's done though. New tires, dog dish hubcaps, seats from a Cadillac SRX, New paint, 351W swap. The grill I have is a 78, no dents i's just been in the weather a while so it's tarnished (but can be polished). I really have to decide how nitpicky I'll be.
