Cool steering locks up while driving!!! please help

while driving my 01 f350 on the freeway the steering locked up on me only for about one second, the second time it happen i lost the brakes as well, i replaced the hydro-booster and everything was fine for about three days, now the steering is acting up again, it feels as if i turned the truck off but i still have brakes, any ideas

I had that happen once on my 92 7.3....... it got real tight and a day later the belt broke.... never did it again check that out

I had something like this happen too, Turned out to be a u-joint in the front end seizing up, just got worse, everyone suspected ball joints

@lari250 did you see any wear on the u-joint? @koolaidman did you replace anything else? Thanks

I had the U-joint thing also. No visible indicator they were bad. Mechanic deemed them good 3 times before he caught it when it was stuck.

The thing about losing the brakes scares me though, sounds like a hydro boost fault if you lost both at the same time. Pump?

no i just replaced the belt and it was all good after.. just check to belt make sure theres no rips tears,, make sure the groves on the under side are in good shape

thanks everyone, a couple of days ago I replaced the powersteering pump and it's been working just fine. I guess I should have said that my truck has 170,000 miles, I am the third owner and I thinks it's on it's third pump. Again thank you all
