Engine Vibration

Need a little insight. The truck starts ok, runs good, and accelarates fine. The only thing I have going on is some major vibration and humming noises at idle. I though maybe it was the power steering pump, but I can't see how that would make the whole engine vibrate. This vibration clears up as soon as you give it a little pedal, or flip on the high idle, and this all started about two weeks ago. I've tried searching for some info, but everything I found doesn't really seem to fit. Oil was changed back in November. Fuel filters have about 4000 on them.

You sure it's not a miss from an injector? I've been in some trucks where an injector going bad caused a miss that made the truck shake at a stoplight.

Also, with regard to fuel filters especially, sometimes things happen and it doesn't matter if there are only 20 miles(or less) on the filters and they could still need replacing. I'm not saying that that is the case here, just that it still could be no matter how short of a time it's been since they were swapped.

Agree with Tex. A contribution imbalance will cause engine vibration. Check for codes to see what you have and go from there.

I am begining to think it is an injector issue. At first I though it might be the power stearing pump beacause the way the vibration would change when turning the wheels. When turning the steering wheel or pushing hard on the brakes, the vibration/noise decreases, and then increases for a few seconds after releasing the wheel or brakes, and returns to what seems to be the norm lately

So do you think there could be a conection between the fuel filters, and the current state of the engine? What symptoms might someone experiance with bad filters?

The only thing I can read codes with at this point is my Insight, and it reports no codes. How bad of an imbalance before a code is thrown? Also could a sticky injector cause such issues?

Took the truck in for service, and they found a very small miss on two injectors. They also found that the fuel pump is only putting out 40-42 PSI, and what to start with replacing the HFCM, and wire harness, do the upgraded fuel pressure regulator, and new filters. How much can low fuel pressue affect injector timming? This is gettign exspensive rather quick, and I'm not to happey about it. Don't ya just love the holidays.

Any thing that is affected by fuel and/or oil can add up pretty quick. Electronics is also a biggie as well.

These fuel injectors HAVE to have high fuel pressure. The minimum fuel pressure should be 45psi at WOT. I'd have the fuel pressure regulator respringed before having the pump replaced. It's possible there is absolutely nothing wrong with the pump and it's not that hard to change anyway.

Forgot to drain to oil? In the famous words of Homer Simpson DOH! I don't really think that would be the case here though. Checked the oil level and all is good. Going to pick up the truck soon... We'll see how she runs.

Cheezit, have you ever seen a turbo cause engine vibration, but still seem to provide plenty of boost as well as minimal turbo lag? I had the turbo off in early October, and the spindle spun freely, and I could detect not movement either radialy or axially. Not sure if that could be another part of the equation.

Not sure waht you mean by neutral run up, but it does vibrate at idle. That is the only time I feel any vibration in the engine, seems most noticeable on top of the turbo. By the way for anyone interested my fuel PSI is now up to 77 from 42.

That's a little much for my taste. I keep mine at 60.
