I really don't see how the valve body is your problem. Im with pop and thinking he did some bad work and is trying to cover it up. 550 shouldn't be the price no matter what. 225 +100 core. You can easily change it yourself just drop the pan and its a few bolts. I doubt that's your problem. Im thinking he put in a cheap converter

I think the "Hold Up" boat done sailed and he is having the OP bend over and grab his knees at this point.

I think he is doing just that. Probably building it and billing the mods of the Sonnax kit.

Probably so. That way when the trans fails he could say "Well, you had me install the BTS or JW Valve Body and it failed and took the trans with it so it is YOUR fault. No warranty".

X2

'if'..... (big) "IF"
This is your problem, you can change it out your self in less than 30 minute. 15 minutes if you ask these guys how to do it. (they will tell you).
I have taken mine out and cleaned it up and checked the valves... nothing to it.
Your 'problem' sounds to be else where, starting with your mechanic.

I tried calling Brian a couple times and he is busy so I'll try in the morning. And the valve body is $225 and a $225 core charge. My main problem is that I'm in wyoming and my truck is in missouri so I can't talk to them face to face

I just called the guy and he said that the solenoid to lock up the torque convertor is not sealing and it is leaking not slowing the torque convertor to stay locked up. Have any of you ever heard of a vbx valve body?

Last time I was there, he had no less than 5 stickies to get back on the phone during his break and we added a few more services than planned and got out of there at 8pm.

I'd still get the hell out of that place if it were me. That is, unless you think he will have the "Goddamned Common Courtesy to give you a reach around."

I just talked to my instructor at school and he said that the valve body bieng bad would cause the tc to jump in and out of lock up. And he is very smart on fords. I thought that there was a solenoid in the valve body that controlled the tc lockup

There is a similar piston-type valve (like the ones in the VB) in the front of the trans that handles the TC lockup... I read about it in my TransGo instructions, but never did the mod. The guy may be half-right in that the piston is sticking or not acting right (i don't know if it's controlled by a solenoid in the same area as the VB pistons or not), but I do know for sure the VB has nothing to do with TC lockup...

EDIT: Here is the page in the Tugger Instructions that shows the lockup piston:

I suspect that this guy doesn't really want to drop the trans to check that pump's lock-up valve, and figures to charge for a "valve body" to cover his costs to R&R the trans again.

Pay careful attention to Joe's diagram in Post #24 above.

i think im going to go ahead and let him put the valve body in, and if that does not fix it then he can rebuild the tranny for free or give me my money back. I do not have very many options as i am a 1000 mile away and very short on money. Im going to try to get ahold of Brian in the morning and talk to him before i tell the guy to replace it. anyone have any thing else they want to put in?
