EFI ?

Are 93 Aerostars Batch fire or sequential? If they are sequential was there a year that was batch? Thanks

The 93s are bank fired. The sequential EFI came in 1996, I think.

Depends on the motor. The 3.0L got Sequential Fuel Injection in 1992 (Yes I know this for a fact), but the 4.0L didn't get it till 1996. If your vehicle can do a cylinder balance test or can detect misfire codes and pinpoint specific cylinders, then it has Sequential Fuel Injection and controls each injector separately. Again, the 3.0L for sure has SFI in 1992, which I think was the first year, and the 4.0L gets SFI in 1996.

Mine is a 4.0L so it should be batch fire then. Now for the bigger question. Can i add 2 injectors and make the EFI run a 289 V8? I need more power than a 4.0L can deliver. Turning 35" tires with 9 passengers and gear is a little much for her. However I dont want to go back to a carb, so i want to keep the EFI.

There is more to it than the injectors. There is also the 6 plug EDIS, which is triggered by the crank shaft position sensor and some firmware inside the EEC.

If you want to run a v8 with EFI, it's much easier to just get the engine and matching EEC system from a v8 car or truck, like maybe an Explorer.

No. The ECU is set for V6 timing. If you were to hook a V8 distributor to it, it would have no idea what is going on. An '86 batch fire 302 computer would probably plug right in and work well enough. Even better would be just to convert to an '87+ Sequential EFI 302 computer.

You can do it, but you need V8 EFI, from '90-92 4.6 for example.

My thought was to run a newer one wire distributor and just use the vans EFI but I wasnt sure the efi would work without the EDIS working. This is just in the thought process right now and if I cant do it cheap it wont happen.

Yes, you can, but you need V8 EPROM Dump for PCM ore V8 PCM. The problem is that pole rings inside the distriburor differ. 6 ore 8 pulses per revolution and one "teeth" is shorter - cyl. #1 identification.

So if you use V6 PCM on V8 distributor you'll get DTC.

My advice - '93 Mustang PCM and wiring. it is with distributor and MAF .

Maybe I'll just put this on the back burner for a while. I also have a couple 4.0L engines i could try and build up but I havent been able to find much in the way of performance stuff for them, other than blowers. I need about 220 HP with lots of torque.
