I heard the Banks Trasncommand kind of blows because all it does is jack up the line pressure. It may have been something else, but the transcommand is the one that sticks in my mind. Dave85 will know for sure.

Are you sure that would work? I thought the powerstrokes use one computer for engine and transmission and might not like being separated from the engine.

The computer from Baumann would give all the control you want but it comes with a steep price for that control. Around $600.

I thought the E4OD's in the powerstrokes and IDI's were the same? What is the difference?

There are differences that were constantly made as the E4OD evolved from one year to the next. Generally, anything between 1989-1998 is fairly similar but not identical and you need to be careful that what you swap is compatibe. A lot of the newer internal parts are backward compatible, but not the other way around. The solenoid body does operate more or less the same, but is not electronically compatible acoss a change over year in the mid 90s. I think it was 1994.

The specific problem of using a powerstroke PCM however is that it will be expecting input from a powerstroke engine to properly operate the transmission. There may be ways to trick the computer, but I don't know what's involved.

IDIs are mecahnical engines, so their transmission computers are stand alone devices that could in theory work when bolted behind any engine.
