don't go putting crazy ideas in readers' heads... when I bought this truck, I sought out and spoke with the best diesel techs I could find. All of them said that while one change early is a good idea, the engines are designed to handle the minor particulate caused by breakin, and with the 6.7L it is truly *minor*. the CGI block allows for a much more accurate manufacturing process, so there isn't nearly as much initial wear or "mating of parts" that takes place. I talked to three different techs who are Ford certified on the 6.7L, and two third-party diesel mechanics (my stepbrother works for Peterbilt). they all told me that I'd be safe using just the oil minder. One recommended an initial change at less than 1k, the rest said that the first should probably be done at less than 5k, just to hedge my bets. They all also said to monitor the oil level, especially for the first few changes.
The schedule posted above is great for small engines, and I doubt it would hurt a 6.7L... but it *will* hurt the pocketbook, and the experts agree that it won't help a thing.
The first oil minder warning says "change oil soon". The second warning says 'replace engine" just kidding...I changed the first time at 5000 miles and my oil minder came up 6800 miles after the first change. At 7000 miles I have not seen it yet.
Rickatic....I laughed so damn hard...That was funny!!!
For the record..I am changing my oil every 5,000 miles...its cheap insurance IMO.
