You're welcome, James, but was the Garage's quote for parts only? I know for a fact taht they make good money on brake jobs, and if you've never done brakes before, they are so easy it's scary. I'd have to be a quadraplegic to ever have someone do my brakes for me again, except one of my sons, that is.
lol, no Pete that was installed, they said it was only an hour to do. Where I'm from you don't do your brakes outside in the winter lol. Its -25 here with the wind chill and they are calling for 1' + of the white stuff, sooooooo i don't have many options.
They quoted me $750 + tax!!!!
When you get the them get loaded calipers as they tend to be cheaper than just buying all the parts. I just did my front wheels on my dually, loaded calipers, roters and hoses for $325. Pulling front wheels and adapters took longer than putting the brakes on.
The prices I listed was for the extreme duty stuff, but like you say, ltl_jrw, it can be done for less than the prices I quoted.
The one thing I did to improve my installation was to disassemble and remove the slide pins from each caliper, remove the cheap OEM grease from them, clean out the pin sockets, and then re-lube them with the Extreme Temperature brake lube (by Permatex, it's purple, and can be found at Napa).

I tell you what, James, you do the work and I'll split the savings with you!
I paid ~$450 for cryo'ed PowerSlot rotors with Hawk LTS pads up front (no calipers). Haven't priced anything for the rears yet, but just inspected them and there's at least 3/8ths inch of pad left, so it'll be a while before I need anything on the rears....
I would love to teach you how to do the brakes, but it would require more than you're saving.
Joe:
I know what you're talking about. Each time for me, though, I did not have the luxury of time to wait for a mail order delivery, and my cash flow over the apst year has prevented me from bellying up with the cash up front so they would be on the shelf when I needed them. Therefore, I was captive to trying to get the best I could find locally.
I AM going to be more proactive, though, for my next set. I've completed the isnpection on all my vehciles and I'm good for at least 6 months right now.
