Now i don't feel so alone. I have a '93 park Avenue I use as my daily driver. It took 3 Anti-Lock valve units before getting one that worked, and very soon now, I'll be putting in the 4th A/C compressor to get one that doesn't leak. Of course it will be fixed just in time for fall and winter.
Fourth crank is the charm! Got a call today from the machine shop saying that the latest crank that I provided them was good. It just needed to be ground. Now he'll put together a list of parts needed and cost to machine/assemble the engine.
Let's hope for installation on a few months since I'm in no hurry over the coming Fall/Winter.
Maybe you can have it ready for the Christmas Parade in Los Gatos!
That's the plan if the engine will be back in time and everything goes as planned. I'll try to make it a goal to debut it at the parade. My wife really wants it there this year. You know what that means, I get to spend money on the truck without being questioned.
These pictures are from last year. Less than 24 hours later, the truck started to have engine problems. The slogan was my spur of the moment idea.
Well, a year has passed since the demise of the engine in my 52. Last weekend, my wife's preschool participated in the annual parade. This time I took the 37. It burned oil and smoked, but it ran tough while moving at a snail's pace.
Finally the machine shop is ready to work on my engine after having it for a several months. I wasn't in a hurry any way. Turns out the engine has been rebuilt before and has .040 pistons now. So, now I needed to find .060 pistons. I got lucky and found the majority of needed parts, including three pistons, at Green Sales. All of the parts are NOS. I searched high and low for the other three pistons, but couldn't find them. Ended up ordering them from EGGE at a whopping $75 each. Kind of hard to pay that price when I only paid $15 each for NOS pistons from Green Sales. I paid less for all parts from Green sales than I did for three pistons and main bearings from EGGE. Waiting to get the pistons and main bearings set from EGGE sometime early next week and will take the parts over to the machine shop. Hoping to get the engine back in January.
Here's a picture of me and the Airflow from last weekend's parade.
That "shine" on the Chrysler is a few years old. I used some vintage paste wax and covered the entire car two years ago. Hopefully, I'll be able to get the engine in the Airflow rebuilt this Spring. Have a guy that will do it and the price, which is about twice as much as the total cost of the Panel's engine rebuild. Next year's Airflow Club of America national meet (September 2012) is in my own backyard. The show will be held in the local historic park. I have to make it there!
Yes, the machine shop will balance both types of pistons. Already discussed it with him. I trust the guy. He builds nice engines. Saw the charge from EGGE for three pistons, main bearings and tax (since they're in CA), $374!!!! OUCH!!!!!! I paid $175 for all of the other NOS parts combined.
Got a call from the shop last week saying that the engine is being assembled, but a few things are needed. One of the three piston rings for one piston was broken in half when they took them out of the NOS box and the oil pump that I bought is incorrect. The mount for the pick up tube is on the side instead of on the bottom like on mine. I already received another NOS piston ring set and now in search for the correct oil pump. Called Egge Machine. They can rebuild mine for $130 or sell a new one for $125. Kanter's also lists the oil pump for $95. I emailed pictures of my oil pump to both to make sure that theirs match mine. Just waiting on confirmation to place the order. Had it not been for the oil pump issue, I would have bveen picking up the engine on Saturday from the machine shop.
Here it is as of yesterday. The color is Diesel Alpine Green. It's the closest match I could find available locally. I'll post a picture of the actual color difference later.
Also found out that the existing water pump on the engine is from a car. The difference is that the fan mounted on the water pump pulley on a car, but not on a truck. Was able to find and purchase two correct NOS water pumps for the truck (thanks to NumberDummy). One will be a spare, along with the existing one from a car.
