Cruse control quit working on my 2002 F-150, 4.6 l v8, 85,000 miles. Did the diag test and get 3 blinks at the end of test. Deactivator defective. Is this some thing I can replace my self? Can it be bought at parts stores or the dealer? Can some one tell me where it is located. Any info will be greatly appreciated....
I am not sure, but I am thinking this "deactivator" is the switch on the master cylinder that they had the big recall on. Have you or a previous owner taken this truck in for the recall? Or possibly someone has just unplugged the switch and never had it fixed. This is what the dealers recommended when the recall first hit, since they couldn't keep enough switches and didn't have enough time to do them all at once.
If your master cylinder switch is still plugged in, I would unplug it till you found out the score. Those things can set your truck on fire if it's the old defective switch.
Thanks for the reply Franklin2. I have owned the truck since new and had the recall on the switch done in 2004. I see where the switch is now. I checked the in line fuse that is near the switch and it is good. I am hoping that replacing it will cure the problem. Any more suggestions are still welcome. TIA...
ProjectSHO89 I had the recall done, maybe it was in 05. Do you think getting this part and replacing it again will help? I tried the search # and nothing came up. Can you steer me to the Part # I need? Thanks....
I did. What I as doing was looking in the thread search and nothing came up. I went to the search at the top of the page and all the info I needed came up. Went to the dealer yesterday and got the part. Took 15 minutes to install and cruse is working. Thank you for directing to the right place...
