I have a 1987 F-350 crew cab 4x4. I just put some ground hawg 40's on but need more than the 3inch body lift that is already on the truck. I have the back blocked and was thinking of blocking the front. Is that safe? Will that effect my steering? Will I need a drop steering arm? Jason in TN.
to lift the front youre supposed to get new springs. I think you can do up to 4 inches of lift without correcting steering stuff. You could use a block if you welded it in but that creates axle wrap which nooone really likes.
When you apply torque to the axle it will tend to wrap or twist forward or backward because there is friction between the wheels and the ground. Adding blocks will make wrap more noticeable and easier to happen because the distance from the axle to the spring is increased.
You might be able to get away with an add-a-leaf in the front.I think they make them with a 2 1/2" rating.Just unbolt the U-bolts and slip that bad boy underneath and your good to go.
I'm pretty sure Skyjacker and Superlift make them.
