when I bought my ranger it had 18" tires I since then I put 245 75 16 on it now here my qustion its a 4x4 so I dont want to lower alot right now from the ground to the sheet metal under the door its 18" I'm thinking about lowering to 16" -whats it sposed to be at? any one know.
Welcome to FTE. We need to know all the basic info about your truck. Year, model, engine. And take a few extra seconds to add punctuation to your posts. It will make them easier to read, so people can think about your request, instead of trying to puzzle out what you're saying.
That said, why in the world do you want to lower a 4x4? Most people want to raise their trucks, not lower them.
its a 03 ranger4x4 supercab 4.0.Well I used to have a dakota 4x4 and that one sat 16",I just think 18" for a small truck is odd and that lets in more drag = less MPGS.
Do not use a size and type of tire and wheel other than that
originally provided by Ford Motor Company because it can affect
the safety and performance of your vehicle, which could result in an
increased risk of loss of vehicle control, vehicle rollover, and/or serious
personal injury or death.
I don't make this stuff up, I just cut and paste it. It's from the owner's manual. Proper tire size is indicated on the door tag.
People change wheel and tire sizes for various reasons. Street drivers may like a lower ride height for looks. People actually using 4X4 go up in size to gain ground clearance for the differentials. Which leads to other mods, body and suspension. The choice is your's.
I put thoes tires back on because I didnt like the 265 60 18! bigger fotprint and you use more power to turn it so you use more gas and I didnt really like the ride either with thoes tires on.As for it my choise I know it is I just dont like big tires on my ranger and after looking at other ranger4x4 it looks like it ok at the height I was just wondering if 18" to a little high for the ranger thats all.
No 18" is not too high. Actually the shorter tires will make your engine run higher rpm's at cruising speed= less mileage. Taller tires will make engine work harder at low speed, but increase mileage at cruising speeds due to lower rpm's.
