I have a 1990 Newport by cobra class a motor home 30 feet long towing a 1995 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo. It has the 460 FI engine and e4od transmission with 72,000 miles. The transmission has a Derale oversize pan with cooling tubes, temperature gauge sending unit and it holds 6 extra quarts of fluid. I have installed a 12 volt pusher fan on the forward mounted cooler. Fresh wolf synthetic transmission fluid. Now the Problem! When towing transmission shifts like its brand new but on long grades trmp goes from 135 to 200 and come out the vent and causes smoke when it hits the exhaust. I had a brake light sticking issue but thats fixed. There are no stored codes.
200F is still low temperature for transmission. Where do you have sensor installed?
The senor is not reading the actual transmission temperature, or something else is wrong.
when we noticed smoke we pulled into a rest area and checked the level. We had been driving for about 5 hours. i am using a glow shift gauge and sending unit installed at filter pickup level in the derale oversize cooling pan
