I posted this over in the transmission thread but thought I would see if anyone here had similar issues.
Can anyone help me figure this out?
My friend has a 2001 F150 Supercrew with the 5.4L and I'm assuming 4r70w transmission. Helping him figure out his problem. He has reverse, 1st and 2nd, but it will not shift into 3rd. He told me it will try to shift into 3rd and then he loses power/momentum. But if he turns on the "Overdrive Off" then it will not even try to shift into 3rd.
I've read where people had problems with the 2-3 Accumulator spring being broke, would this keep it from shifting?
How can I tell if the problem is with the Transmission Shift Solenoid or not?
I am going to go take a look at it this afternoon and was looking for any suggestions to try or check out. Thanks for any help
I would say pull the pan and see if there are shards of metal. My tranny was doing something similar and I bought the new actuator and pulled the pan just to find out the bottom of the pan was littered with shards of metal. The actuators are easy to change also so I hope that is the prob.
