So I'm in the process of converting my 78 to a manual, and I got a free transmission and transfer case out of an 81 f150, and I can't decide if I want to keep my np203 and the full time four by, what are the opinions of full time 4x4 with a manual?
Gas millage isn't a concern, this is a toy truck, I actually got 12mpg on its current setup on the highway. I guess I kinda like the full time four wheel, just trying to get some opinions
I think an NP203 with a manual would be kinda cool. To my knowledge Ford never offered that combo. My dad prefers the full time 4x4 to part time, I'd say just go with your personal preference. My F-150 gets poor traction on the street, wouldn't have to worry about that with the NP203.
I would opt for a part-time transfer case if you have the option. Unless you live in snow and/or muddy roads year round, there's no necessity for full time 4wd.
Then again this is a toy truck, ill drive it every once and a while, but not a dd by anymeans. I think ill keep the 203,its kinda cool to have all the time four wheel.
Did ford ever offer a np203 and a manual?

Awesome. I have never heard of Ford putting a 203 with a manual. I think it would be a cool set up and I'd love to hear how it works out.
Personally I do prefer the NP205 but I like the NP203 as well. 1979 was the last year Ford offered a full time 4x4 truck so there aren't that many full times out there. I like them, I'm quite surprised at all the people on the board that don't. I have quite a few family members that love them. Keep us posted.
I figure it couldn't hurt trying it, I have the other one if I don't like it, I could always swap it out. I'm not sure what transfer case the other one is, didn't the f150's and broncos get the borg warner transfer case in the 80's?
