When I blew a boot, the boot itself was OK. It was a weak clamp, so I had to get a better clamp before I gave it too much. I think it popped off at around 27lbs. Now I've made 32 and all is good. Should never need to replace the boot. It'll just pop off and need to be hooked back up.
Thank you, I used constant torque clamps, and I put some hair spray between the pipe and the boot, and I dont get to much boost, at least in the past, but now I changed the MAP sensor, so I dont know yet.
Take your truck out for a few test runs and really stomp on the pedal and see how much boost you can build. Most of the time if it pops, it's just a boot blowing off and you can put it back on.
Making sure the inside of the boot is clean helps. Spraying some hairspray inside the boot will give it a little extra grip. Bring some extra hose clamps with you to get by in a pinch, and if you split a boot, then yes duct tape will work. Just give it lots of wraps over the entire boot and then put the clamps back on and take it easy on the boost. The boots don't really have to be that strong to get you down the road.
So where are you going for vacation? Somewhere fun I hope?

I have tested my truck empty and not problems at all, the max boost I have gotten is about 20+ psi. I want to see it loaded with the new MAP and the IC (understanding that with the IC you loose some psi of boost). And really I dont go hard with the engine to safe the tranny.
Im planning to go to the beach in the pacific ocean in a place named bahia Chamela and the little town named Punta Perula, with several islands in the neighborhood with quiet water, white sand, good wheater (90-70*F) and some RV parks.
Sounds beautiful! If you post pics, all the advice will be free!
The constant torque clamps will help, and as usual Chris' advice is great. I will only ad two things. 1) it sounds bad when a boot blows, but fixing it is not hard, just greasy. 2) sometimes (I am not familiar with your setup) the boots have bumps inside that fit into grooves on the IC tubes, be sure to fit them together for a strong connection.
The next question you were going to ask, I will ask for you! Will the CEL from the blown boot reset itself, or does it need to be cleared with a scanner?
When my plenum boot blew it didn't set a CEL, the only thing I noticed was I wasn't getting more than 5psi of boost and my egt's were about 100* higher than normal.
Plus it was gutless and smoking a lot.

Some of my boots have bumps inside and some of the tubes have grooves and other doesnt. If one of thouse without them blews or slips (sp?) I will weld a ring with a wire or something like that, at the end part of each pipe to fix that. We will see.
I dont think that the CEL will come on when one boot blews IMHO.
Thanks for your comments.

Nice install! The boots look strong, if you have around 15psi I do not think they will blow.
When mine blew yesterday I did get a CEL, but it went away this morning, so no problem. I think yours will be the same.

Thank you. I hope they be strong as they looks like, because I dont know in reallity how much boost Im going to get now with the new MAP and the IC, when towing AND in the future Im planning to go to sticks 1s, so more boost. Well see.
BTW maybe your CEL was on for other reason, maybe low oil pressure when you step on the pedal, IDK.
Jose,
What does your trailer weigh? As I recall it's not very large.
Rog
Yeap, you are rigth, Its about 3,200 kg, aprox 7055 lbs. empty, and about 21 ft. long.
And I have read that my truck should tow it without any compliments, even doesnt feel that is back of the truck. IDK.
The problem with lost of power I have mentioned in several posts, is that at some high altitude (began at aprox. 6000 ft), seem not to have power and the turbo doesnt want to spool even at WOT and the EGTs easly went to 1200+ degrees. That was the reason I changed the MAP sensor and installed the IC.
BTW when I changed the MAP, it has hand written: ground out +4 so maybe it was failing and the PO didnt change it .
Are these steep inclines at 6000 ft. ? Does it help to manually drop it a gear when climbing and the EGT's are going up?
Rog
Yes some are steep inclines (I dont know the exact grade, because here arent marked ), and the tranny doesnt drop manually, that, I also talked to Mark Kowalsky thinking that my tranny was bad, but he told me not, that I should find out other things to explain why I was loosing power.
What I meant Jose was for you to manually shift the lever down into second gear on these steep inclines (OD off) so as to keep the RPM's up and the EGT's down.

Ok now I know what you meant, I tried that and the EGTs doesnt down.
What is the difference between the red boots and the blue boots. My 1999 SD has the blue ones and I blew a boot the other day. wondering if the red ones are better?
