Ok so I have a 2002 F250 SD CC 4x4. Ihave not had truck long and its my first 3/4 ton
I got stuck today and got out and was successfully able to lock the driver side hub in, but the passenger side would not lock in.
Anyone have any suggestions
OK. These hubs have a tendancy to freeze up. About the only hope you have for that hub is to pop it off. If it's like my '01, you should be able to squeeze the two tangs on the lock ring together (by hand) and wiggle the hub out. Remove the O ring and drop the whole thing into a container filled with WD-40 or the like. Let it sit in there overnight, pull it out and begin trying to work the selector from AUTO to MANUAL. If you're lucky this will work. If not, check out eBay but beware...a lot of the hubs on there don't work either. This worked for one of my hubs but not the other. Once you get two working hubs on your truck again, the best way to keep them free is to periodically bend down and move the selector back and forth a couple times. Good luck. Hope this helps.
The o-ring around the dial deteriorates and bunches up, jamming the dial. You can disassemble the whole hub in about 3 minutes, and even change the offending o-ring (you can get them from agriculture dealers or hydraulic shops for pennies). Here is how to disassemble the dial part to get to that o-ring:
thanks for the reply. I may just order some new warn hubs and be done with it.
Try cleaning and lubricating Stock 4x4 hubs, first. That usually works for some extended amount of time. BUT in the end, BUY the Premium Warn manual locking hubs and be done with Fords AUTO HUBS(ESOF)
good luck!
