My sister has a 2002 Explorer Sport and just took it out for this winter season and not very good heat output. I told her to watch the temp gauge to see if it is going up. I am going to look at it next week I was thinking of a new thermostat and when I called the parts store that I deal with they did not have one in stock, they said they don't sell them. This thermostat covers only for that year and pricey at $35.00. Is there other problems I should look for before the thermostat as water valve, vacumn contols, or air door troubles on this unit. I have not looked yet but I think it is to old to have a cab filter on unit. looking for other experiences with this problem. Thanks
The problem could be low fluid level, bad thermostat, or plugged heater core. The most likely problem of the 3 is the thermostat - Advanced Auto Parts, O"Reilly, or NAPA all sell them for $12-$16. Only replace when engine is cool.
I have a '92. Just got a call from the wife. Said she lost heat and the truck has been conking out in the mornings until it has ideled for a while. Typical "wait till the truck dies before I tell hubby its been acting up lately".
97f250--- you need to find out if the temp gauge is in the normal positon or not. I have a 2002 and the heat output is VERY GOOD compared to an F150. If the gauge is good (normal) and th heater hoses are hot, then your thermostat and pump are o.k. Start looking at the blend door / gear box/ motor... that is a problme area altho i have not had the problem. Door mixes hot and cold air to get the correct temp. When it breaks, you get cool air.
