What does everyone do with the speaker hole / grill area in the top of the dash when you install door speakers and no center speaker in the dash? Cover it up with something from the underside of the dash? If the grill slots in the dash are not covered the sunlight could damage the plastic defroster duct, etc Any ideas on what to do?
Thanks!
Why not just put a newer dual voice coil speaker in the dash? Will give you a better sound. Otherwise, I guess I'd just use something like thin smoked Lexan or something like that and use the screw holes to bolt it too the dash to cover the hole. That or just use the original speaker and unhook it.
Bucks, all very good ideas however i don't have any original speakers and I'm gonna put speakers in the front and rear doors so do I really need another speaker in the dash? I like the smoked lexan idea BTW: what Rims do you have on that bad boy? make/size and also tire size? Those are about the only wheels that actually look nice on these old dents IMHO.
I guess I always thought the sounds seemed a bit muffled when using just the door speakers because they are so low in the doors and having a speaker in the dash made it sound better. The original was crap though. The dual voice coil speaker made for these is much better. Granted, it's not a design that will base you out of the truck, but a nice replacement. But, you may like just having door speakers.
The wheels on my truck are Eagle Alloys 16x10, tires 315-75-16s. I purchased the wheels on ebay for a great price and I also really like the look of them. Nothing to flashy, but really brings out the truck.
My truck did not originally have a radio and that space was just left blank. Thats how it currently is as well. I wouldnt be concerned with sun hitting the duct work.

My 1973 didn't have a factory radio, and it's ductwork is still great. I wouldn't be concerned with it either.
Now if you are talking about the fabric A/C ductwork. That stuff can rot away in total darkness. Again I wouldn't have a concern with sunlight.
