whats the dif

I was warned aginst putting an 86 engine into my 89 f 150. is this true or are there just too many conversions to make? whats the dif?

Yes, the 86 engine is not fuel injected, it is carburated. This means you would have to change your entire fuel system to a high pressure system. You would also need the computer and wiring.

If it is a 302, it's plug-n-play. The late 85+ 302s are all fuel injected. If it's a 351, it is not as easy.

The biggest reason not to put an '84-86 engine in an '87-89 truck is that the connectors don't match. You're better off with an '87-91 engine, but if you can get the gas tanks & fuel lines, too, go for '90-91 so you don't have the crappy tank select valve and extra fuel pump. It'll involve a little extra wiring, but it's worth it. For the most bang-for-the-buck, get a '95-up MAF engine, but be prepared for LOTS of wiring mods.
