ignition/starting problem
I have a 1990 F150 4.9L auto trans
Went to start it and the idiot lights came on. fuel pump turns on. Won't shift out of park. and engine will not start
When i turn the key to start it does not spring back to the on position it just stays there.
I replaced the lock cylinder and the ignition switch. with both new parts on there i have the SAME problem. Nothing better nothing worse.
any ideas on what the real problem could be?

My guess is that the ignition lock actuator has broken. You need to pull the steering wheel, then the turn signal plate, then the column shroud. You will then see the actuactor, it is a little pot metal link that connects to the key actuator and to the rod that runs down the column to the ign switch. It also locks the shifter which is probably why you can`t move it.
