My 84 Ford f250 doesn't have a xl, xlt, or lariat package listed. Does that mean its just a base truck or perhaps it fell off or what. It has front captains chairs.
Are you talking about the radio bezel on the dashboard?
I picked up a cluster bezel and radio bezel from the junkyard awhile back, and the radio bezel doesn't have a package name on it. The area where a name badge would go is smaller than the same area on my previous Custom bezel, by several inches.
One thing you have to think about with these older trucks is, there ain't no tellin' who's had their hands on stuff. What's in your truck may or may not be original.
You might be able to send your VIN to Ford to be decoded. They'd send you a build sheet with a bunch of info on your truck, like the trim package, options the original owner added, day/month/year of manufacture, and more. Then you'd know for sure what you have.
Ford Dropped the Custom in 1982 for a no-name baseline model, and brought the custom back in 1987 due to complaints. You could order a Custom anyway you wanted really, within reason, and have it as highly optioned as a XLT Lariat but it would cost you more. The no-name baseline was very option restricted, and you couldn't order certain things without upgrading options.
I wondered about that. I bought it from the owner who had it built, but I will go ahead and check to see if I can order a build sheet.
...my mistake, I forgot you bought it from the original owner. Never mind. lol

My truck is indeed a Custom model, but I don't know what trim level the truck was that I got my current dash bezels out of...if it were a Custom, wouldn't the word CUSTOM be molded into the bezel? I think my factory bezel was this way.
I do notice what appears to be some sort of adhesive residue where a name plate would've been on my current, non-name plated bezel though, so...
It certainly is logical that he removed stuff I mean he added custom parts and didn't tell me what package it was in the sale add or otherwise. I am going to assume that it is a baseline version because it has aftermarket cruise, and manual windows. None the less I will simply add the options I want and ignore the ones I do not. Just glad most of the hard stuff is done axles trans engine etc. I think an under hood light, console light, and floor lights would be awesome.

Thats how the name plates are affixed, I do know that. The more I think about it it could have fell off and been in the box because the owner has said I have more parts in the center console and box in my back seat. Interesting.

The Custom name was moulded into the plastic. That's correct.

The Ranger / Ranger XLT / Ranger Lariat / XL / XLT / XLS / XLT Lariat, nameplates were glued on with adhesive.
So then that leaves me wondering what bezel was there at one time or another.
Did all the bezels that you listed have a flat back on them, perhaps a rectangular-shaped flat back? I can see the adhesive residue in a rectangular shape. It's faint, but it's there.
Honestly, I probably won't put a name plate back on, since my truck isn't a true restoration and is likely going to have options that are from various trim levels, or not from a trim level at all.
We've needed this for a long time on here. Mods, feel free to add it as a sticky.
