1980-1981: Ranger, Ranger XLT or Ranger Lariat.
1980-1984: XL, XLT or XLT Lariat.

NEW OEM HORN PAD STEERING WHEEL 78 79 80 81 82 83 F150 - eBay (item 140445393383 end time Dec-24-10 08:46:31 PST)
The horn pad is severly damaged and missing it's bottom section. But the horn pad was off a 1982 or 1983 XLS with cruise control.
The XLS was the model that took over from the Freewheeling package. The XLS had it's own unique stripes and "aluminum like" bezels and horn pad.

Ford XLT Lariat
Ford XL
Ford Standard Pickup
The top XLT Lariat package offered cloth seat trim, cloth inserts on door trim panels, carpeted lower map pockets, color keyed carpeting, woodtone instrument panel, soft wrapped steering wheel with woodtone insert, bodyside full length protection moulding, bright wheelip mouldings, brushed aluminum tailgate trim panel, plus "XLT" and "Lariat" identification plaques.
"XLT" emblems are found on the instrument panel bezel and under "F150" on the front fenders.
"Lariat" emblems are only found on the "B" pillars of the cab.
The 1980-1981 Ranger Lariat and 1982-1984 XLT Lariat differs by quite a bit. 1985 had a few changes though most notably the change from Rosewood to burlwood, the door panels went from woodgrain insert door panels to cloth, and the tailgate trim panel was totally redesigned.
On another note, I photoshopped that one Radio Delete bezel, and this is what it should look like unmolested.

And Kyle, I added your pics to my original post. Thanks man, I had completely forgotten about the XLS trucks.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
glovemeister, the Custom trim level was not offered in 1984, it was dropped in 1981, and the brought back in 1987. Your truck is just the base version.
1982-1986: Baseline (No name)

Then you got Explorer Special packages that could have been ordered that throw all the trimline standards out the window, so to speak. With explorer packages it's possible to have a base model with carpet, woodgrain bezels and certain lariat only trim options, that wouldn't be alowed on a normal base model after 1981.
-Intermittant wipers
-Map Pockets (Carpeted on higher trim)
-vanity mirror Are you referring to a day/night rear view mirror, or a makeup mirror on the passenger side visor? My 1980 brochure lists Day/Night mirror, but no vanity mirror. However, the passenger side visor I pulled out of the 82 F250 w/convenience group has dry adhesive on the passenger side, for what looks to have been a mirror. Did Ford just leave it out of the brochure?
4) Protection Group (Standard on Ranger Lariat, XLT Lariat)
-Front bumper with bumper guards and vinyl rub strips
My 1980 Brochure shows a Ranger Lariat on the cover without the Protection Group. Could this option be deleted?
6) Radio (Optional on all trimlines)
-AM
-AM/FM mono
-AM/FM stereo
-AM/FM stereo tape (8 Track)
-AM/FM stereo cassette (Compact cassette)
-Optional CB radio in 1980-?
.
The earlier 1980 - 1981 Lariats were called "Ranger Lariat" and the later ones were called "XLT Lariat."
If you don't want "Ranger" on the bezel at all, you can eliminate the 1980 - 1981 models. The word "Lariat" was only found on stock 1980 - 1981 bezels, but even then it would be signified as "Ranger Lariat," as there was no stand-alone "Lariat" package.
In 1982, "Ranger" was dropped from the F-Series completely. That takes us to the 1982 - 1984 bezels, because the 1985 - 1986 bezels changed to Burlwood.
Unlike the earlier 1980 - 1981 bezels, the 1982 - 1984 "Lariat" package didn't have "Lariat" ("Ranger Lariat") on the bezel at all, it only had "XLT," because once again, there was no stand-alone "Lariat" package. If you had a Lariat, it was actually an "XLT Lariat" but only "XLT" was on the radio bezel.
*****
There is no such thing as a 1980 - 1986 F-Series bezel with "Explorer" on it.
"Explorer" was just a limited edition package that was added to a regular F-Series pickup from 1980 - 1986 that was only offered a few months out of the year. So it was possible to have a, and get ready for this: a 1981 Ford F150 Ranger Lariat Explorer.
No, although the day night mirror was a part of the convenience group, so was the vanity mirror. It did indeed glue to the passenger visor.
No, you are correct. The protection group wasn't standard on the 1980-1981 Ranger Lariat. It was a option. My Memory cheated. It was standard on the XLT Lariat in 1982-1986. Sorry for this error.
-Optional CB radio in 1980-?
