Yes it's possible to find a Ranger Lariat or XLT bezel without clock and radio holes, but they would be extremely rare
I've seen quite a few Ranger XLT/Ranger Lariat bezels without a clock. I'd say they're more common than a Black Ranger Lariat interior. However, i've only seen one Ranger XLT/Ranger Lariat bezel without a radio, and that one is in the 1980 brochure.
Here's a black Ranger Lariat interior without clock.
One thing you have to think about with these older trucks is, there ain't no tellin' who's had their hands on stuff. What's in your truck may or may not be original.
You might be able to send your VIN to Ford to be decoded. They'd send you a build sheet with a bunch of info on your truck, like the trim package, options the original owner added, day/month/year of manufacture, and more. Then you'd know for sure what you have.
I pulled the same Radio bezel out of a baseline 1983 or 1984 F150 today (Manufacture date 5/1984, but it has a 9" rear end which would indicate it being a 1983?..). It doesn't have a tag and it doesn't look like it ever did.
Thanks for all those pictures, Fordzilla! That is a good visual showcase of the different bezel styles Ford used on the 1980-1986 F-Series.
If Ford had "Ranger XLT" and "Ranger Lariat" nameplates on the older bezels, I wonder why the later XLT Lariat package only had "XLT" on the bezel?
"XLT" and "Lariat" are not separate trim packages, are they?
I have the later 1985-1986 Burlwood style bezel, but I really like the bright silver trim around the older style bezels. Does anyone know what exactly Ford used to make the bright silver trim around the bezels with?
I used a silver sharpie but I think Im goin to try other things till its right. I dont like havin a lariat and the only difference between it and an XLT is a couple red badges on the side and carpet door pockets. So Im tryin to find different radio bezels and badges for them too shine up my truck.
I don't think the "XLT" and "Lariat" were two different trim packages for the later years. But that still doesn't explain why Ford used a "Ranger Lariat" bezel nameplate and not an "XLT Lariat" nameplate. Unless "XLT" referred to the interior trim, while "Lariat" was an exterior only trim package? That might would explain why there are "Lariat" badges for the body, but no "Lariat" nameplate for the interior?

From 1980-1984, Ford used a red "Lariat" adhesive badge that was placed on the tailgate finish panel. It is exactly like the "Lariat" cab post emblems, but slightly flatter and stretched into more of a rectangle. While not correct, this badge looks great in the interior, and will fit right inside the bezel where the "XLT" normally is. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/fd/full.aspx?Page=66

It looks alright but its not as bright as the original silver. You also have to be even with it or it looks cheap, and lastly its not great on high wear points. I used it on my steering wheel as well and Im goin over it again every once in a while.

00boss, buy a Testors argent silver paint pen from the hobby store. It matches very well and holds up.

Don't know about Ford, but I used a metallic silver paint-pen, with a fine telescopic tip, & I can't pick the difference between the re-done & the non-faded parts.
The paint has a reflective fleck through it that brightens it up in daylight

Chrome foil, simular to aluminum foil, would be my guess. Same as the earlier radio, wiper, headlamp, and heater *****.
Yes the XLT and Lariat are seperate, or at least on the earlier models. Cannot say for 1985 or 1986. The 1982-1984 XLT Lariat Trucks had the Lariat nameplate in the same spots as the 1980-1981 Ranger Lariats, except in Red if I remember rightly. One on each "B" pillar of the cab, and one on the tailgate. If these badges are not present, then it's just an XLT.
