2000 F250 using oil????

i have a 2000 F250 with the 7.3 and i have rebuilt the turbo and gutted the ebpv but im still using about a quart of oil every thousand miles it doesn't ever smoke except in the morning when i start it. it justs puffs one small cloud of blueish gray smoke and thats it. i talked to a ford mechanic and he thinks it could be the injector o rings. i would like to know what ideas yall have or problems yall have run into before i go chasing something else? i read somewhere on here about glowplugs causing smoking. how do they cause smoking?

To answer your question, in colder weather compression alone isn't enough to efficiently burn the fuel being injected into the cylinder. This produces a white smoke from the inefficient burning of the fuel. Adding heat, either engine heat or from a glow plug will aid in the efficient combustion process and minimize or eliminate the smoke.

Of course this doesn't help with your oil leak. Do you have any mods to the truck? What kind of shape is the air filter in? A restricted air filter can suck an excessive amount of crank case vapors into the intake and use a little oil.

Leaking injector o-rings will usually leave a trace of oil in the fuel filter bowl or the fuel filter itself. How does that look? If you remove the oil fill cap and start the truck, what kind of blowby (pressure not smoke) do you have coming out the fill tube?

Bad glow plugs will cause white somke when cold. Drain some fuel from your fuel bowl and see if it looks a little oily. If it is, the injector o rings could be the cause. How new is your air filter? If you have a REALLY dirty air filter, I could see more oil being consumed, but not a qt/1000mi.

Ding ding ding!

Right there, do what camo said. If you're using oil and you don't know where it's going, check the fuel. Bad injector o-rings will cause oil to end up in the fuel. So if the fuel looks dark and oily, you've solved the mystery of the disappearing oil.

Now if the fuel is clean, then you have other issues.
