Oil consumption

Hey guys got my new 351 in and tuned but it's using oil bout a quart every 250 miles it white smokes some over 3000 rpm but shows no blow by and no coolant use I've had this motor out twice so I'm pretty frustrated about it now I was thinking maybe rings not seated and try break in oil again what do y'all think?

That's unacceptably high oil usage.............it may already be too late on the break in but some of these go much longer (2000-3000 miles) than most believe (1000 miles) --- you'll hear and feel a difference once they all finally seat....

....have you pulled all the plugs to see what cylinders may be involved?

Plan on it tomorrow along with compression check last time it was built and I had to fix it had blow by turned out to be blown holes in the cylinders but this has no blow by so I was thinking rings not seated

In the middle of leak down check I got a little bit of air out the dipstick but a lot out of the PVC plus plugs are oil fouled on one side... You thinking valves?

Is there a PCV in one valve cover and a vent in the other? Are the plugs fouled on the side with the PCV?

That air out the dipstick during a leakdown is from (potentially unseated) rings...

...did you hear any leakage at the exhaust pipe or in/near the intake?
(typically valve issues here)

Just castrol 1030 mineral oil and I could here air in throttle body valve cover-the most air from here and the least amount from dipstick I couldn't here anything from exhaust but I'm going to take the headers off this time so I can get this problem resolved quick now that I got a ticket for inspection sticker out

PVC is Polyvinyl Chloride a type of plastic often used in pipe.

PCV is Positive Crankcase Vacuum, a condition where the pressure in the crankcase is lower then atmospheric.
